Guns

Here are a couple guns I made. I did a study of the Halo 3 SMG, and also made a model of the gun concept that I did earlier.

Crossroads Scene

For my Drawing II course at Guildhall, I had to create a crossroads scene. Here is the image I submitted today, since it was due. I plan to continue working on the scene, and hope to add it to my portfolio website.

Gun Model Sheet

For my Art Creation II class, I had to create a model sheet for an imaginary gun. I started by creating silhouettes in Photoshop, and chose the one that I liked the most. I then made a quick base model, and painted over it.

Mr. Bean Photoshop Study

Here is an assignment that I found both challenging and fun at the Guildhall at SMU. I had to create a portrait in Photoshop, and push it to reality as far as I could in a 1 1/2 month period of time. I chose to do the portrait of Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean. This is because he has a large array of interesting facial expressions. I also noticed that I need to start drawing more males.

Watercolor, and Grad School

I have been quite busy lately doing contract work for an educational mobile game, and I have also been in the proccess of preparing to start graduate school. I will start on August 13th at the Guildall at Southern Methodist University, and will study to get my Masters in Interactive Technology with a focus in Game Art.

For now, here are some watercolors I made in the past month.

1955 Ford Thunderbird

Here's an update on the 1955 Ford Thunderbird I have been working on for some time now. I'm almost ready to unwrap it, bake it, and texture it.

Studies

I have noticed that my work seems to be missing some elements which seem vital in the creation of vital work. In order to attempt to remedy it, I have started to do studies of other artist's works. Here is a study of the Mona Lisa I started in Photoshop, and some quick sketches of clothing fashions.

City Block (WIP)

I started to create a city block for my portfolio, and got a little carried away. Anyways, here is my progress on it so far. The textures are just quick ones that I made in order to help me establish the UV maps early on. It is currently in Maya. I will eventually finish the individual buildings, refine the textures, and throw it in UDK with some props.

Cyber the Cat

Here's a digital painting of my friend's cat. I'm not entirely sure if I'd continue working on it. I made it in Photoshop, around 2 hours of total work.

Forest trail

One of the nice things about Olympia is the closeness to nature. I decided to do a digital painting of a forest trail near my parents' home in Photoshop.

I am also considering being more picky with the quality of work I post on my blog, since potential employers may look at it, and I also feel as though I should only showcase the work which I perceive as demonstrating my skills.

noblewoman with base colors

Here is the noblewoman in marmoset, I have created a base diffuse and specular map. I will continue to work on it, and hopefully put the designs from my concept onto it.

noblewoman, 3D

I "finalized" the concept for the noblewoman, and decided to model her in 3d. Attached are images of it in Zbrush, Maya, and with the concept.

Noblewoman concept

Here's an update. I fixed the shoulders, made the head larger, and chose a color scheme.

Noblewoman

I want to create another character model. Here's a concept of a noblewoman with 3 color scheme variations. It is inspired by 13th century European fashion. I personally like the purple one the best; purple conveys power and royalty.

Glock 22 Gen 4

After beating Skyrim, I started playing a few first person shooters (Left 4 Dead 2 and Halo: Anniversary for the main part), I was inspired to create a gun in Maya. I made a Glock 22 Gen 4 in order to replace the Winchester gun model on my portfolio website, and to also practice baking high poly to low poly hard surface meshes. Here are some renders of the model in Marmoset Toolbag. Once I get some critiques on the model, I will make some revisions and post it to my portfolio.

Generals, Dungeons, and job hunting

After taking a short break from 3D, I decided to revise the Roman General a bit. I added a Pugio (type of dagger), a scabbard, a handbag, and adjusted some proportions as well as touching up the various maps.

I also started creating assets for a medieval dungeon. Here are some screenshots from within the Maya view port. Once I get it to a reasonable point, I will throw then in UDK, since my portfolio lacks any work in that engine.

I am still looking for an entry level position in the Game Industry. Although I have not had any job offers yet, I am still optimistic.

phanaeus Vindex (complete)

After quite a few hours of tinkering with the diffuse, specular, and normal maps, I have completed the phaneus Vindex model. Here is a render of it in Marmoset Toolbag. Hopefully I will be able to update my portfolio website soon. A late Happy New Years to all!
